How to Make a Simple Ice Cream Soda
Simple things are best…especially in the summertime! This summer, we’re setting aside Sunday evenings for a bit of ice cream indulgence, and I’m trying my hand at making ice cream sodas. It seems like it’s been many years since I’ve seen “ice cream sodas” on any café or diner menu, and that’s really a pity, because they’re so simple to make and they’re such a refreshing summer drink!
To Make a Simple Ice Cream Soda:
Place two scoops of ice cream in a tall glass.
Fill glass to almost to brim with chilled seltzer water.
Top with whipped cream.
The seltzer water’s bubbles begin to break apart the ice cream, and pretty soon you have a creamy soda in whatever flavor of ice cream you chose. The one pictured here is my favorite, pistachio!
Some fun variations are:
drizzle chocolate syrup or caramel sauce in your glass before putting the ice cream in
use a flavored sparkling water (in lieu of seltzer water) to enhance the flavor of your ice cream
try strawberry ice cream and top with a fresh strawberry
try cookies-and-cream ice cream and top with cookie crumbles
add a shake of your favorite candied sprinkles to the whipped cream
