How to Make Wassail

Our family’s traditional wassail recipe has been loved by our family and friends for more than 30 years! We serve this warm and comforting, non-alcoholic drink at our Christmas party…a big pot of it simmering away on the stove and filling our home with a deliciously spicy aroma. Wassail smells like Christmas! Here is our family’s treasured recipe for Wassail.

Our recipe makes one big pot of wassail. For our Christmas party (50-60 people), I will keep two pots simmering on the stove throughout the party. It can also be made in a crockpot, but will take quite a while to come up to temperature.

Wonderful Life Farm’s Wassail

1 gallon of apple juice 15 oz. pineapple juice 1 c. orange juice
2 T. whole allspice

2 T. whole cloves
2 - 6" long cinnamon sticks, broken into pieces

Place all spices into a large, metal tea ball OR a square of cheesecloth. Close and lock tea ball or tie cheesecloth with string.

Pour all ingredients into a large stock pot. Place tea ball or cheesecloth into pot. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer. Serve with a cinnamon stick, if desired.

If desired, have a jar of cinnamon sticks handy to add a finishing touch to everyone’s cup.
